Electronic waste (e-waste) is anything with a power cord or power source: laptops, TVs, cell phones, and even electric toothbrushes.
š¼ļø The big picture: As much as 40% of the heavy metals in U.S. landfills come from the electronics we throw away instead of recycling.
Let’s continue withĀ Part 3 of our Let’s get organized for the new year series withĀ Andrew Siegel. (Part 1Ā andĀ Part 2)
- Drop off items at a city or county transfer station like the Dallas County Home Chemical Collections Center ā they take e-waste, batteries, florescent bulbs, chemicals and more.
- Call a junk removal company. Junkluggers sorts your items for you and donates or recycles everything that doesnāt need to go to the landfill.
š Attend or host an e-waste recycling event! More info here. This is a great fundraiser for schools, religious organizations and HOAās/neighborhood associations.
ā ļø Getting rid of a computer? Be sure to ask for a Certificate of Destruction to make sure your data remains safe.
ā For your Smart Homeowner list
