💡 Let there be lights! Part 3

For affordable and versatile outdoor lighting set ups, we’ll divide those into two categories a) smart and b) automated/remote controllable.

  • Today we’ll look at smart options.

Why it matters: For maximum flexibility and integration going forward, you’ll want to stick with smart options.

🖼️ The big picture: “Smart” lights, plugs, etc. are connected to the Internet.

  • That connection is what enables limitless automation and integration with other smart things.

📝 Consider your options: Smart things will always have their own app or system of control.

  • Most of those can be easily integrated with smart assistants like Alexa, so you can control everything from a central app.

🔬 Zoom in: To have smart control of your outdoor lighting, you can combine smart lights, smart light bulbs and smart plugs.

👉 Smart lights: This is an all-in-one solution where the set or string of lights connects to your Wi-Fi and you control it from an app or smart assistant.

👉 Smart bulbs: A smart bulb will work with a standard light fixture.

👉 Smart plugs: Smart plugs give you smart connectivity to everything from patio string lights to holiday lights to landscape lights.

✅ For your Smart Homeowner list

  • If you’re just now dabbling in the smart lighting world, I recommend you make two decisions.
  • Choose your smart assistant. I have Apple everything but I chose Alexa for the flexibility.
  • Choose limited brands. The more you stick with one or two brands of smart devices, the easier it is to manage.

Best,

Travis
