Since our homes arenβt as air tight as they should be, we need to be aware of the contents in the connected spaces.
Why it matters: Air is moving from your connected garage, attic and/or crawl space into your living space.
- Bringing pollutants with it.
πΌοΈ The big picture: Reducing the number and kind of pollutants in connected spaces leads to better IAQ (Indoor Air Quality).
π¬ Zoom in: Start by focusing on these two categories:
π Combustion appliances β> If you have a gas furnace or water heater in your garage, a closet or attic, ask your HVAC tech to make sure those are venting properly to the outside.
- Make sure you have CO (Carbon Monoxide) monitors in hallways near any combustion appliance.
π Chemicals, gasoline and anything with harmful fumes β> If youβre storing these in an attached garage, those fumes will get into your house.
- If you wouldnβt store it in your bedroom closet, donβt store it in your attached garage.
β For your Smart Homeowner list
- You can know whatβs going on with your IAQ with an advanced monitor like Airthings View Plus.
Best,
